This enchanting Belleek design (Degenhardt reference number D1521) is 7-7/8ths inches in height, dates from the Belleek pottery's first period, and features a covered bowl similar in style to the body of the Echinus tea pot and kettle, paired with the base from the Prince of Wales Ice Pail. (Note that the base is generally more finely and crisply detailed than it appears in most photographs, including the one here.)

The Echinus Footed Bowl has been available off and on continuously from Belleek at least as late as the seventh mark period (and perhaps later), and has been offered in simple pearl finish (shown here) to elaborately painted, gilded, or tinted and gilded examples.

While this piece has not been offered in any Belleek catalogs for several years, site visitor Simon Whitlock reports seeing new examples of this piece at the Belleek pottery around the year 2000, but could not get anymore information on it from the pottery staff other than that the examples viewed may have been a special order or commission.

In 1983 it was offered (as Belleek item number 0380) only in pearl finish at a U.S. suggested list price of $450.

I would love to be able to share images of this design in other finishes if you have or know of someone who has such an example.

If you have (or know of) an example for sale please contact me, Robert Ruiz.
